In February, I had the honor of serving as the featured speaker at the HarvEst Distinguished Women Lecture Series at UC Berkeley. As part of that, I participated in an interview for the series “Interview with History,” with host Harry Kreisler. Here is that interview, which is an hour long. We discuss Tangled Vines, my first book, Towers of Gold, and the founding of Berkeleyside. I also talk about my influences growing up.

Dear Mr Hanff,
We are documentary filmmakers currently researching documents and photos related to Brazilian ambassador Luiz Martins de Souza Dantas, the second husband of Elise Meyer Stern (also appears as Elise Hortense Meyer), daughter of Marc Eugene Meyer and Harriet Newmark. Her family are the patrons of Berkeley University.
Since there are many details which the letters and photos we have access to will not uncover, we are also looking forward to talk to a biographer or historian of the Stern-Haas-Meyer-Levi family.
Our Elise Meyer Stern (also Mme Elise de Souza Dantas, or simply Liza or Lizzie), was born on Nov 1872 in LA, and passed away in SF in 1952. She lived in Paris for a longtime, before and after WWII.
